Something in Bloom thru all our Midwest Seasons

Around The Garden

Our personal garden was started in 1976. Brick walks created with pavers from the streets of Topeka, Kansas are the backbone of the garden. Travels to England, France and Ireland were the inspiration for much of the design, yet the plantings are time tested perennials, trees and shrubs that withstand the challenges of our Midwest climate.

An antique iron fence encloses the main patio, four arches covered in clematis and hardy roses create entrances to each colorful section of the garden. A collection of hand-made birdhouses bring a touch of structure and bluebirds to the garden each spring. Saved from the Kansas City stockyards, a stone feed trough holds a whimsical garden for flower fairies and an array of aged stone pots are filled with creative plant combinations each season.

A true four season garden, the garden is both a trial garden and a backdrop for our gardening classes. An open air rustic garden room anchors the center of the garden and is a restful spot to enjoy the color and fragrance. Set within eight acres of native hardwood trees and a forest of ancient red cedars, the gardens are secluded and surrounded with an abundance of nature. Quite the restorative respite from the nearby city.
